“What the fuck, Gumbo?”

So, I kind of fucked up on this one. I was far too distracted with the actual process of making this, and then devouring it to take photos of the creation. I apologise. However, I will tell you how to make this, and share the secret of COMPLETELY winging this dish. My friend Chris aptly titled this dish “what the fuck, gumbo?” due to the fact that “what the fuck?” was the general sentiment while cooking this.

Without further ado…

What you need:

3 tbsp. oil
3 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2tsp crushed red pepper
1/2tsp paprika
1tsp cumin
1 1/2 qts. water
1 tbsp. roux
1 onion, finely chopped
1bag cleaned shrimp
1 salmon steak, diced

How to make it:

So, if you don’t know how to make a roux, you should take note as of now:

1/2c butter
1/2c flour
1 bay leaf

Melt butter in a saucepan with bay leaf, and add flour. Cook until browned. That’s it.

And now, back to the gumbo:

Brown flour in oil. Add onion and stir until brown. Add water. Bring to a boil. Add shrimp, salmon, salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, and roux. Reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes.

Serve this over yellow rice. It’s fantastic
