Battered Shrimp and Sriracha Sauce

So, I decided to make some battered fried shrimp a while ago, because, well, why the hell not, right?


What you need:

About a pound of pre-cooked shrimp, de-tailed and de-veined
Panko Breadcrumbs
1/2 cup flour
Two eggs, beaten
1tbsp onion powder
1tbsp garlic powder
1/2tbsp salt
1/2tbsp pepper
Choice of frying oil (I used cottonseed)

For the dipping sauce (optional):

1.5tsp rice vinegar
1/2 cup Mayonnaise
Sriracha to taste

How you do it:

Lay out a sheet of tinfoil (it makes for easier cleanup), and pour out flour. Place a bowl with the beaten eggs in the centre, and on the opposite side, the panko and spices, mixed together. Flour the shrimp, dredge them in the egg, and roll in panko until covered.


Seriously, feel free to make a damn mess of the whole thing. Don’t be afraid to get dirty! When all the shrimp are coated, set them into the fridge for about 10 minutes. While this is happening, pour about an inch or so of oil into your pan, if you have a deep fryer, use that. Heat on medium-high until almost bubbling, and then take the shrimp out of the fridge, and toss them in!

Fry until golden, which is about 4 minutes on each side, then remove and let drain on a paper towel lined plate. Serve with sriracha-mayo sauce.
